Go Ahead, Impress Me

Go Ahead, Impress Me

Basically, what we’re doing is looking for aspects about the person that are ‘like ourselves’, if we find enough similarities then we ‘like’ the person, or it could be said that they made a good first impression on us. So in order to improve the first impressions you are giving out, consider using the same points as your checklist below.  When you meet someone for the first time you;

Look at their Eyes.

The eyes are the window to the soul and if you are a threat to me then I might see your intention in your eyes. Make sure your eyes are clearly visible (no sunglasses, hair over the eyes, hoodies etc).

Look at their Face.

If you have evil intentions then I should be able to see it in your facial expressions. Hence why ‘smiling’ is such an essential part of making a great First Impression.

Look at their Body

You will skim your eyes up and down the other person’s body (yes you will, you’ve done this to every person you have met). Your subconscious needs to know that if it came to ‘Fight & Flight’ then you could either win the fight or could outrun them.

Look at their Hands.

This is to ensure there are no weapons. This is why most greetings in the world involve the showing of hands. Always keep your hands visible (not behind your back or in your pockets).

Listen to their Voice.

The final aspect of making a ‘First Impression’ is to listen to the tone of their voice.  If they are a threat then you should be able to hear it in their tone. Again, a simple smile addresses this issue.

The experts advise us that it takes up to two minutes to form the first impression, but you have until the four minute mark before it becomes ‘set’. So there is a small window for recovery if need be, but don’t count on it. Do everything you can to get it right the first time. Be impressive.
